Measuring Capacity!
The children in Widemouth class have been working on measurements in maths. This week we have been looking at capacity. The children have had to accurately estimate, measure and convert using millilitres and litres.

Toy Designs - Programming
The children have been designing their own toys inspired by Roald Dahl characters. They had to think of how their interactive toy would work and then program these on Scratch. Whilst working on these, the children had to overcome any errors or bugs that occurred and use logical thinking to fix them. Here are a few examples of some of the finished products.
Volcano Art!
In Widemouth class we have been working on writing inspired by the ‘Escape from Pompeii’ story. Due to this the children have produced their own volcano artwork. They have been learning about different techniques with a paintbrush and on how to create different colours by mixing.

Widemouth's Sewing!
To lead on from last year's puppets, Widemouth have been using their sewing skills to create their own felt toys. They have used the blanket stitch, running stitch and an overcast stitch in order to create their brilliant products. Check out the pictures below!

German Cooking!
As part of our topic on Germany, we have learnt about the foods that Germans like to eat. We have learnt how to make a type of German gingerbread biscuit called Lebkuchen. We sold our Lebkuchen at our German Christmas market.
Widemouth's Artwork!
For our topic we have been learning about Paul Klee. The children learnt skills with paintbrushes and oil pastels which they used to create these pieces. Our main focus for this topic was to understand mixing and blending colours which the children have thought about to create interesting artwork.
Our Germany Topic Books
Our topic this term has been on Germany and we have made our own topic books which will contain all the things we have learnt.

We have been learning in ICT to manipulate images. Using the work of Andy Warhol as an inspiration,we drew a tin of Heinz Tomato Soup and then scanned it in and repeated the images. Then we coloured it to give it a 'pop-art effect'.
We have been commenting our reading journals since the beginning of term. These are special books in which we record our responses to what we are reading. Mr Whitefield selects some of the best entries and publishes them on the website and puts them on display in the school corridor. We hope you enjoy our responses to our reading!
Our first topic of the year has been 'Great Artists'. In Widemouth, we have been learning about Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. We have used these artists as inspiration for our own pop art self-portraits.
The display in our classroom shows the self-portraits next to the photograph of the artist.
KS2 Pirate Ships
Duckpool and Widemouth class have been designing and creating their own pirate ships. They had to make their ships look effective and consider the materials to help them stay afloat. On Pirate day, the children will test their ships out on water.
3D Cornwall Maps!
For the last few weeks, Widemouth class have been working on their own 3D maps of Cornwall. They researched the different places across Cornwall and then made their maps using paper mache. They worked in different groups and included keys in their maps. Check out the photos of the finished maps below.

Last term, the children in KS2 were given their own reading journals. These give them a place to do their own writing about their current reading books. Changing Seasons

Puppet Making!
Widemouth class have been making their own hand puppets of a nocturnal animal. They designed their puppet and then had to use materials and equipment to create their final product. Check out the photos below!
Shadows!
In Widemouth we have been learning about light and shadows. The children have been creating their own models out of tin foil and then had to draw around the shadows using torches. Check out the pictures below!
